With the nickname “Elaine from Maine”, I’ve built a reputation for championing Maine’s small businesses, non-profits, and towns.
Both of my parents were raised in Maine mill towns. As I grew up, I was acutely aware of the impact a struggling economic base and fraying social network have on your sense of self and your belief in the future. I didn’t know how, but I knew I wanted to be part of revitalization efforts bringing back vibrancy to Maine mill towns.
As an AmeriCorps serving the Lewiston Housing Authority, I wrote grants to fund the after-school programs that offered aspirational and academic curricula to the majority-immigrant youth living in the development. As the Director of Media & Community Affairs at Central Maine Growth Council in Waterville, I relished the adventure of discovering a small business’ story of success and writing a press release to bring the business some well-deserved recognition (and more customers!). I also wrote grants to improve municipal infrastructure and strengthen the local entreprenuership ecosystem.
I realized that the best way I can promote the people, places, and businesses of my beloved home state is through writing – putting your story and accomplishments in clear, concise, exciting language that garners grant funding, media attention, and engagement. With this realization, I launched Pen Name.
If you’re a startup ready to scale to new heights, a non-profit with a unique story to share, a municipality seeking to strengthen public infrastructure and economic development, or a membership organization with a mission to provide valuable services to your members, write me a note. I’d be thrilled to be part of your story of success!
